Appendix 1 – Proposals where objections are recommended to not be upheld and are recommended to be implemented as advertised

1.       Site 1 Bay Vue Car Park Newhaven

1.1      This proposal is to introduce electric charging bays where six EV charging points are already in place

1.2      One objection was received on the grounds:-

·                       Weight of electric vehicles (EV) is generally 50% greater than conventional vehicles.

·                       Wall is insufficient to support ongoing heavy load.

·                       Charging points are too small and difficult to open doors

·                       Parked cars protrude

·                       No need for more charging points as bays underused.

·                       Improper parking in them.

1.3         The proposed TRO will have six dedicatedEV only parking bays adjacent to the charging points. The installation of the bays were part of a Government initiative with Lewes District Council and were put in by Connected kerb. The charging points, signage and bays lie adjacent to the car park wall but are at least one metre way from the wall. Following their introduction, the bays have been used by non-electric vehicles and electric vehicles not charging. To ensure access is available for electric vehicles wishing to charge, it is necessary to formalise the bays, which in turn will allow enforcement to be undertaken.

1.4         Having considered the objections, officers are satisfied that there are not sufficient grounds for the proposals to be withdrawn.

1.5         Recommendation: To not uphold the objections and install the proposal as advertised.
